Free Studentship
Freeship is granted to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Candidates interested in availing of this facility are required to apply through proper channel.
Student's Aid Fund
There is a provision to extend financial help from this fund to students with financial constraints to help them to purchase books and stationery, to pay their college dues and University Examination fees, to photocopy study material etc.
Career Counseling
The faculty members advise students on job prospects and opportunities. Various commercial organizations are invited to meet the students and advise them on methods that will enable them to
cope in this fiercely competitive world.
Certificate courses
(Classes held 3 days a week in the afternoons)
Surendranath College for women has started certificate
courses in 1996. The courses at present being offered
are Pre Primary Teachers’ Training, Journalism, Library
Science and Fine Arts and Commercial Arts. Prof Leena
Gangopodhyay acts as the coordinator of the courses
and Dr. Madhusree Banerjee, the Principal of the college
remains overall in-charge. The college, with the help
from academicians and the industry, has designed the
curriculum to strike a balance between the knowledge
and skill components. The teachers do career counseling
to students of the college as well as students from
outside are eligible to get admission to these courses.
These courses are offered three days of the week in
the afternoon .
WEBEL Computer Training:
Our College has introduced computer training for all Honours and General Students from the present academics session. The course will be conducted in collaboration with Webel Technology Limited. A certificate will be awarded to the successful students at the end of two years of computer training. The Course Content includes the computer fundamentals and Operating System,Windows,MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint,MS Acess, Internet & E-mailing. Overview of Linux and Open Office.This will also include one of the following specialzations. Flow Chart & Programme in C. C++/Financial Accounting-Executive Level/ Multimedia-Certificate Level.
The Class will Be Conducted during class hours. Students will pay a subsidized fee of Rs. 60 per month for the course.
Remedial Coaching
The College received grants from the University grants Commission to introduce Remedial Coaching for SC/ST, Minorities and economically Backward Students.Special Classes are arranged for such students. books and study materials are also available for remedial coaching.
Career Counselling
The College Provides Carrer counselling to all students with funds provided by the UGC. Special workshops, panel discussions and counselling sessions are arranged for the students to enlighten them of varios career opportunities available. Varios study materials,magazines and other updated resources are also available for the students.
Stipend for SC,ST, Minorities, Economically Backward Students under UGC Scheme
The College arranges a stipend for students belonging to the weaker sections of the Society. In the academics session 2009-10, such stipend was made available to 200 students.
Auditorium
A state-of-the-art auditorium is being constructed at the ground floor of the college premises and will be functional from August 2010. The auditorium with a capacity of approximately 200 is a major landmark in the history of our college. The Constrution of the auditorium is a part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the college. Various Curricular and extracurricular activities in the college will be held in the Auditorium.
